Squirrels are the members of the Sciuridae family. This family consists of animals of small and medium sizes. Squirrels are found almost in every region of the globe. The largest squirrels in the world can grow to 36 inches and can weigh up to 4 pounds. They have their own territory and will die fighting for it. Mother squirrels are very dangerous when they have their babies. They are only active in dawn and evening which makes them crepuscular. Squirrels were discovered about 41 million years ago. Squirrels like to eat nuts, fungi, veggies, flowers, fruits, trees, plants and even some insects. The most common color of squirrels is grey and they have a darker tail.
Possible damages the squirrels can cause:
Squirrels can enter any house through the smallest places and holes because of their small size. If they don’t find a place to enter your house they will chew the roof and other materials to enter it. After going in they will start on chewing different objects and will start to collect different materials to make their nests. Squirrels will chew wires in search of food and material to use for their nests. Chewed wires are a common sign of the presence of squirrels. Squirrels will also dig up gardens in search of food. They will also approach and contaminate your fruits and vegetables and partially eaten fruits and vegetables are also a sign of their presence. Squirrels will bite through furniture as well. If you could spot small teeth marks etc on your furniture, it would probably be of the squirrels. Squirrels could also bite through metal and plastic furniture although it could be very hard. They could also chew through trees to make their nests. They completely eat the tree from inside to make more space available so that they could store more food for winters. They could also chew through PVC which could cause flooding and wastage of water. They can also damage your roofs and could even steal your birdseed, their eggs and food. Squirrels also carry numerous diseases that are harmful to humans such as rabies etc. Squirrels would also chew your car parked in the driveway which includes car wires, tires, etc. They just want to grow their teeth and they grow by chewing so the wires could be their biggest target. They usually build their nests where they find the safest places, chimneys and vents could be an ideal place for their nests. They usually don't bite humans but if they bite you should contact the doctor immediately.
As from the above-mentioned discussion we can say that they cause a lot of damages to our property and these damages could be prevented by trimming the branches of trees which are very close to your house. You should also call your utility company to cover the wires with PVC so any animal would roll over if they try to walk on the wires. We should also cover our chimneys and vents so that the Squirrels can’t come in our houses.
Conclusion:
Squirrels are very small animals but they still could damage a lot of your properties hence they should be taken seriously and we should cover our wires with protection and should cover our chimneys as well so the squirrels won't come in and destroy our property.
